Description:
Astaxanthin is a red pigment produced by some types of microalgae, as a protective agent to guard against ultraviolet (UV) light. Astaxanthin is also found in many sea creatures like shrimp, lobsters, salmon and even flamingos, as the compound makes it way up the food chain and is used by these animals to protect themselves from suns UV light.
Astaxanthin is often dubbed the “king of carotenoids,” as research shows Astaxanthin to be one of the most powerful antioxidants in nature. In fact, its ability to fight free radicals has been shown to be 6,000 times higher than vitamin C, 550 times higher than vitamin E and 40 times higher than beta-carotene.
In the human body, Astaxanthins antioxidant properties are believed to help protect against certain types of chronic disease, reverse skin aging and alleviate inflammation.
