The common Chinese name for Fo-Ti is “He Shou Wu”, which loosely translates as “black haired Mr. He”. Chinese legend says Mr He used the herb to restore his dark hair. Since then Chinese herbalists have used Fo-Ti as rejuvenating tonic. Scientists believe the active compound in the herb, is a substance called tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside which has a very similar structure to resveratrol.
