Description:
Schisandra is a vine native to East Asia where its berries have been used as a herbal tonic for the past 2000 years. Modern research attributes the herb’s effects to a group of lignans known as schisandrins, which have been shown to up-regulate the production of a mitochondrial anti-oxidant called glutathione, this may help to increase energy levels and reduce mild fatigue. There have also been a number of human studies using the extracts of schisandra, which may have found an association with increased athletic performance among long distance runners.
